I have a new blond icon: Robin Wright. As Claire Underwood in the award-winning Netflix series, House of Cards, she is steely, cunning, and eerily calm—the very qualities that escape me, ha! In the second episode of Season 1 (spoiler alert!), she asks her longtime office manager to let 16 people go, and when that’s done, proceeds to fire said manager with surgical precision, albeit with little emotion. Well, I’m fairly chill, in the sense that I can keep my cool in the workplace (and I believe in being gentle and kind). However, as someone who is largely transparent, I am unable to stay poised amidst excitement or agitation. In yoga/ayurveda-speak, classic Vata. In an L.A. Confidential interview, Wright equates her Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe award-winning character to “Lady Macbeth to Francis’s Richard III,” the latter, referring to Kevin Spacey’s chessman/conniving politician, Francis Underwood. (Spacey, by the way, is also amazing on the show.) Claire’s wardrobe is eye-candy of sharply tailored shirts and dresses befitting this highly nuanced character. In real life, Robin Wright’s style is tomboy-chic in a New York-Brooklyn kind of way, which I also find cool. In this paparazzi photo of her and fiancé, actor Ben Foster, she sports Doc Martens, jeans, slouchy scarf, aviator shades, and a beanie.

And the blond bob? The way her bangs fall to the side? Perfection!
