I am married to a Back To The Future superfan. This, I’ve only recently realized. True, there were DeLorean models (one perma-parked at his desk; a few in the closet) and Marty McFly figures ordered (and pre-ordered) over the years. But given how 2015 is an auspicious year for lovers of the franchise, I now fully grasp the extent of my husband’s fascination—and devotion—to the films and the unforgettable characters. And by osmosis, I’ve become a fan myself and have applied some modest geekery of my own on getting up to speed.
With today, October 21, 2015, being the day Marty and Doc Brown, brilliantly played by Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd go into the future in the sequel to the 1985 hit, sharing BTTF-related activities we’ve enjoyed this year thus far:
1) HBO’s Bryant Park Film Festival
Back in August, we watched the outdoor screening of Back To The Future I. I had never seen Byrant Park that crowded! According to the husband, when he got there a few hours before the evening screening, people were already waiting in the sidelines, with their picnic blankets, and once the gates opened, made a mad dash for spots on the lawn. And if you didn’t have a mat or blanket, you wouldn’t have gotten much space other than the ground you were standing on.
2) New York Comic Con 2015 Technically not just a BTTF event, but I did pick up the new book, “Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History” a few weeks before it hit stores. It’s a massive compilation with take-away mementos from the film, like the (hollographic) photograph of Marty and his siblings (the hollogram creates the fading effect from the scene where Marty works on getting his parents together so all of them would be born). We also picked up a few poster prints, one of them pictured above. Eep—gotta do some follow-up fact-checking to find out who the artist/illustrator is for that. 3) Back To The Future in Concert at Radio City Music Hall Now this one was epic! It was amazing watching the movie with the New Jersey Symphony live orchestra!

Before the screening, the husband stopped by the meet and greet at Piq store with James Tolkan, who played school principal Mr. Strickland.
4) Back to the Future II Screening & Panel With Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson & More
I plan on further fine-tuning this post tomorrow, adding a few more mementos from today. But off to bed for now, Great Scott!
